Rossnaree Art School

Lessons in Classical Drawing

** All courses 2016 are now closed for entry.

Rossnaree Art School welcomes both working artists and amateur painters, offering a variety of summer courses in 2017 following the Florentine traditions and sculpture.

Every year, tutors from the Florence Academy and the Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence come to Rossnaree to direct courses. Invited tutors in the past include Irish artists Joe Dunne, Principal of the RHA (Royal Hibernian Academy) School Board, Samuel Horler from the Drawing Studio Dublin, Gearoid Hayes and Harry Durdin Robertson.

Rossnaree Art School was founded in 2007 by artist Aisling Law. Having returned from a year in a Florence art school studying drawing and painting, Aisling saw the need to establish a similar art program in Ireland. It was her aim to bring back the positive aspects of what she saw at the academic schools.

The school is dedicated to teaching traditional techniques in figurative painting, drawing and sculpture, focusing on the human figure. Students work in large studios under north facing natural light.

Courses run throughout June, July and August and the cost for each 3-day module is €275. For students enroling in two modules, the cost is €520. All fees include a delicious lunch using fresh produce from Rossnaree's Walled Garden and materials.

For students who would like to stay at Rossnaree during the course we offer a discounted rate of €120 p/night B&B or there is alternative accomodation from €18 per night at Newgrange Lodge.

Rossnaree provides an inspiring environment for anyone who wishes to pursue an artistic endeavour. Situated opposite a UNESCO world heritage site, the landscape is beautifully uninterrupted.
